Dear Boris Matatov!

With heartfelt joy, we congratulate you on your 70th birthday!

Your Guiding Role in the Life of Our Community — San Diego Yehudim (SDY) is truly unique and profoundly meaningful. You arrived at a time when we were in great need of spiritual leadership.
Before you, this sacred mission was carried out by the esteemed Nison Mavashev, of blessed memory. We sincerely believe that the Almighty sent you to us - to continue the path of service, faith, and light.

From the very beginning, you became the heart and soul of our community: leading religious gatherings, offering thoughtful guidance on the observance of traditions and rituals - both on joyous holidays and on solemn days of remembrance.

We respectfully call you Rav, even though you humbly remind us that you hold no official title. Yet your deep knowledge of Torah, Halacha, kashrut, Jewish philosophy, and tradition speaks far louder than any certificate ever could. To us, you are - and always will be - our spiritual teacher and mentor.

You possess the rare gift of explaining the most intricate ideas of Torah and Talmud with warmth, clarity, and soul, making accessible what once felt beyond our reach. You lead prayers, ceremonies, and rituals not only in the synagogue, but also in homes, hospitals, and cemeteries — anywhere that comfort, presence, and spiritual wisdom are needed.

Over the years, you have become a trusted authority in Jewish law, and both the young and the old turn to you with respect and confidence. Your calm demeanor, patience, and kindness — especially in difficult moments — inspire us deeply.

We thank you for your tireless devotion, your humility, and your unwavering dedication. And most of all, for the fact that you give so much of yourself without seeking reward, seeing your service not as a duty, but as a mitzvah - a sacred calling of the heart.

Dear Boris, you have also built a wonderful, loving family. Your wife, Zina Aminova, is an exceptional woman - a gifted educator who has shared her musical talent with so many of our children.

Together, you have raised remarkable children and grandchildren - worthy heirs to your family’s and our people’s enduring traditions. Your words and actions radiate warmth, wisdom, and love.

May your health remain strong, your spirit peaceful, and your days filled with joy. May you always be surrounded by family, friends, and a grateful community, and the deep respect you have earned through a lifetime of service.

Happy Jubilee, dear Boris! May every new day bring you light, meaning, and happiness.

With deepest respect and affection,
Your friends and members of the San Diego Yehudim (SDY) community
