A message to the community from renewal company!
Milestones.
Markers. Signposts. Stepping stones to the future. Along our journey at
Renewal, we have crossed various chasms and crossroads. As we stand on the
threshold of this momentous milestone, our celebrated 1,000 kidney transplants,
we want to acknowledge those that have made this a reality: Our Kidney Donors.
They
are an inspirational group of amazing individuals, each in their own unique
way. Seeing a need, they stepped forward to answer the call. They are our
heroes. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the privilege of physically
donating a kidney. But there are other ways to join in this incredible Mitzvah.
By donating financially, one can have a share in this amazing act. When the
idea for Renewal was first thought of, people laughed. An organization of
individuals selflessly donating their kidney, many to a total stranger?! Look
at how far this organization has come. Approaching 1000 transplants is an
incredible milestone.
More
than 786,000 Americans have kidney failure. Of these, more than 558,000
individuals are on dialysis. According to the U.S. Department of Health &
Human Services, close to 100,000 Americans are currently waiting for a new
kidney. There are only roughly 23,000 kidney transplants per year, with most
coming from a deceased donor (which is not as healthy of an option). After one
year, patients on dialysis have a roughly 23% mortality rate, with a five-year
mortality rate of 62%, at ten years that number sadly increases to 90%.
We deeply grateful to Renewal’s Executive
President – Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz, President – Sendy Ornstein, Director of
Development – Rabbi David Schischa, founder and Chairman – Mendy Reiner for
helping to create this organization, which has earned the respect of the
medical community and the eternal gratitude of the thousands of
patients/families who are beneficiaries of their work.
We
invite everyone to help Renewal Organization financially and donate a kidney to
save someone's life!
