As the calendar year comes to an end, it is customary to reflect on its
milestones. For our beloved Ladies’ World, the departing 2024 has been
truly extraordinary—a jubilee year. A quarter of a century is a significant
milestone for both individuals and nations, but for a print publication, it is
an almost unimaginable achievement—few print media outlets endure for such a
length of time!
For 25 years, your magazine has delighted us with its engaging,
educational, and inspiring content, reflecting the life and culture of Jewish
communities around the world.
Dear Dr. Zoya, I fondly recall our meeting in 1998 when you invited me to
become the editor of Ladies’ World. I was occupied with another project
at the time and was unable to accept your offer. Years have passed, the world
has changed, life in our community has evolved—everything is different now.
Yet, the memory of those early days of Ladies’ World remains vivid. Your
bold, bright, and warm ideas laid the foundation for what has become a
treasured publication. From its very first issue, the magazine became the voice
of our community—a place where everyone can find something close to their
heart.
From articles on the rich history of Bukharian Jews to pressing topics of
modern life, everything published under your editorial leadership is infused
with soul and professionalism. I am especially in awe of your mastery of Russian
philology, your vast erudition, and your remarkable ability to present complex
topics in an accessible and captivating way. I deeply admire your talent for
crafting intelligent, elegant, and beautifully written editorials, as well as
your exceptional skill in editing the contributions of others, including my
own. I remain grateful for your brilliant work on my article about spy Irina
Alimova (Issue 265, July 2023).
You possess a rare gift: the ability to heal not only the physical bodies
of your patients but also the spiritual well-being of your readers. Your
magazine inspires, unites, and fills the lives of its audience with warmth and
meaning.
Dear Dr. Zoya, please accept my heartfelt gratitude and profound
admiration for your many years of dedication at the helm of Ladies’ World.
I deeply regret that I cannot bestow upon you an award akin to the Nobel
Prize—though, in my opinion, you are undoubtedly deserving of such recognition.
I wish you continued creative success, boundless energy, and fresh ideas.
May the years ahead bring you decades more of inspired work, and may Ladies’
World remain a steadfast friend and guide to its readers.
With respect and gratitude,
Arkadiy Yakubov
